Sunset is associated with many things.
For some people, it is a sign of the end of a day, where work should stop and rest should take over. For other people, it is instead the start of a day, and their calendar is dated as such. Yet for others sunset does not have connection with time at all and simply a passing moment of beauty, there to be captured in a poem or a picture. It is also sometimes associated with sorcery as the herald of the night, and with mystery, signaling the coming of the dark. Yet it is also a lover’s time, where desires are met and promises are fulfilled, a perfect time for two only.
And for Cadenza right now, the orange rays of the dying Termina sun is also a perfect setting for another story. A story of farewell.
For what the sunrise brings the sunset will eventually take away.
But here, running between the walled roads of Ikana Canyon, where stones around her died and long shadows keep their forms, Cadenza does not think of what today’s sunset has taken from her.
Rather, she thinks of what these past few weeks has given her. A memory to stay forever.
...It has been a really fun experience.
Cadenza has decided to left the Kokiri girl, Flora Lasola, to chase her own path in the vast roads of the world. It has been a hard decision, for Cadenza is really fond of her. But ultimately this is something she must do.
Because their destiny do not travel the same path.
Flora would no doubt gladly accompany Cadenza to Ikana Canyon had she told her about her. It is just her personality to go out of her way to help others. And Cadenza would be one of the people Flora would really want to help. But after seeing the Kokiri boy, Leon finding his own life’s meaning and improving himself greatly in the process, Cadenza was convinced that the sooner she part ways with Flora, the better. She could not influence Flora’s life and dreams any longer.
And The Songstress has been far removed from her own path.
So, having set herself for once again ask her Small Riddle around, Cadenza left Clock Town early. Before the fingers of dawn of appeared she had already tied her Bronze Bell securely around her back, with its usual black satin thread. She had used her Twili Form earlier that night to write Flora a message, borrowing her ink and paper. The message mostly said about how she was really sorry for leaving and comforting Flora to not wonder much about how her purple friend can write. She had not had the opportunity of letting Flora saw her real self, and no she did not look for one either. Only Flora and Leon’s flutes would have left, with its mysterious characters carved by a Twili.
In the end, it is still the biggest secret between them.
She slipped the message in Melvin’s cage and quietly slipped out of the hotel room, only stopping to see her dearest friend sleeping one last time.
That is when her eyes met Melvin’s.The cuckoo had opened his eyes.
There was no sound exchanged between the two creatures. No clucks, no scratches, not even a flap of wings. Only a silent stare of two pairs of eyes, one red with guilt and one green with understanding.
For all that they have been through, they still respect each other.
Melvin bowed his head slightly and closed his eyes, slipping his beak back inside his feathery wings. He is still that worry-free Cuccoo in the very end.
Cadenza raised her front claws, forming a last salute to her friend.
“Until later, Flora. I would certainly teach you and Leon more notes to play on your flutes! Farewell. Cadenza.”
Now, Cadenza is treading the silent road of Ikana Canyon, its barren stones dyed red from the setting sun. She does not really know where she should go in this desolate land. But she already knows what she would find.
She would find someone that can tell her more about her Song. That was what the Old Tree said.
And Cadenza believed him.
It has been quite a pleasant trip. Days after leaving Clock Town brought Cadenza across Termina Field, freezing in the abnormally early winter. There has been a lot of snow lately, and the ice are thick. But here in Ikana Canyon the rocks refused to be covered by snow. Only the wind blows fiercer, cold and angry from its unpleasant journey.
Other than the relentless howling of winter wind, Cadenza has not found any other sound. The Canyon was dead quiet.
Except for a sound of footsteps, right now. Echoing faintly from a road on the other side of the wall.
Cadenza is startled.
She would love to have a company to share a journey, but she really does not expect to meet any other creature on her way here. What she has heard in Clock Town about Ikana Canyon is enough to give her a picture of a forbidding an rarely traveled area. Even worse in this chilling weather and nearing night also.
Who would be traveling here?
Stopping in her own road, she creeps closer to the wall’s shadow and waits for the footsteps to pass. Who, or what, the owner of the footsteps would soon appear in her sight. Their two roads are intersected, and there is only one road to continue ahead.
