Deep in the southern swamp, science was afoot. Or, at least, that was what Golan was hoping would happen.
In truth, his results were less than he wanted. Between running for his life from wild beasts, and avoiding too much contact with the elements of the swamp that seemed toxic to the touch, Golan quickly regretted leaving his comfy room in the Clock Town inn. Still, he had a job to do by coming out here...the Chief Librarian's chronicle of the World of Light wasn't going to write itself. Looking at an unusually shaped flower, he begins to write eagerly into his notebook, growing slightly annoyed by the dark splotches of swamp water that were beginning to grow on it.
Flower similar in appearance to those growing in Termina Field, though there are key differences. Adaptations to swamp life, or simple coincidence? Will take samples and compare...might even be same species with reaction to different soil/water/habitat.
As he writes out his notes, trying to take care to preserve the paper as best he can as he does so, he hears a splash in the water behind him. Turning, he sees a strange, tentacled creature popping out of the water, and his eyes widen as a rock is spat out, hurtling at his face. He needs no further cue than that to roll out of the side to dodge the projectile, and, picking up his belongings surprisingly carefully for the situation, runs like heck.
Making a mental note to compare the creature to those in his old Light World books despite the danger of the situation, he ends up smacking into a tree due to his lack of focus. Without skipping a beat, he slides around the tree and, nursing a bloody nose, manages to get out of range of the monster.
"Ow." He mutters. It seems that he is going to be in for a long day.
She snuck out of the hotel she had been staying in; even though injured, Flora wanted to go see stuff whilst everyone else was busy. She could move around, but she was taking everything slowly; and wandering into the swamp, she could almost faintly hear a noise from afar, a noise that reminded her of home. But she wouldn't be able to make it there; something darted past her, and she felt fear grip her throat. There were.. things in this swamp. With a panicked expression, the Kokiri tried to get away from the things.. and well she was sure she would be fine. After all, she had a map.. of some sorts. She couldn't read it, but she had been pointed out where she was; so she had an idea of where she had headed after that.
She managed to make it to a more forested part of the swamp, as she remember a rumour she had heard. There were woods here too, that people got lost in; just like home. So maybe.. maybe she thought, there would be Kokiri there, and she could maybe find out if they had seen her fairy companion? It was a lead she had acquired not long after Leon left her side, to go find the one that had hurt her. But even despite her injuries, Flora was desperately looking to find her fairy companion; Atoli was somewhere in Termina, she was sure of it! That sense of bond between a Kokiri and their fairy was just that strong.
Of course, she didn't expect the sudden clacking noise; a deku baba rose from the shadows, and with a squeak, Flora used her book as a shield, and was knocked back, closer to a tree. Out of reach as well. Curling up, she was afraid to move, afraid that other things like that were around. The fear was easily justified; these deku baba were IMMENSE; at least three times her own smaller size! How did these massive plants get unnoticed, she wasn't sure; but they were certainly scary to the small girl. She really didn't want to face it, as the fear made her body shake bit by bit. She didn't want to face whatever it was! But she couldn't run either.
Because if she ran, then her work to become better would be nothing. Stuck there with her own dilemma, she heard footsteps; and then before her, someone just.. swerved around the tree. The Kokiri's eyes widened, as she felt shy. But that person looked like they were running from something; the sound of spitting reached her ears, and she blinked. That was a new sound; the smash of a rock against the tree startled her. The girl however, noticed that his nose was hurt; reaching into her pack, she scuttled towards him, and put the bandage on her book, before extending it out to him. She was scared of him, but the book suddenly peeking from the bush with a bandage, and small hands at the very end might be surprising to the male. The bushes were taller then Flora herself after all.
She just hoped he wouldn't try to eat her like everything else seemingly was in this swamp.

Sliding around the tree, he makes sure to end up exactly on the opposite side of the Octorok's rock-spitting mouth. Taking the chance to catch his breath, he breaks out his journal without a second thought.
Tentacled creature hides in rivers. Very hostile. Spits rocks. Source of rocks and method of propulsion of speed aren't known, but not in position to make a dissection. Might try later.
He stops, however, when a drip of blood lands from his nose and onto his paper. With a sigh, he tries to blot it out, taking the paper away from his nose. He grumbles to himself, feeling that everything seems to be going wrong for him today. At that moment, though, he feels a bump on his arm. Turning around in a flash, he jumps to his feet in fright, when he sees a book poking up from the bush.
"...Huh. Of all the places to find a book...this isn't where I thought one woud be..."
As he goes to take the book, though, he finds some unexpected resistance as he pulls on it. "...That's unusual...is it some kind of trap? You'd think something would happen if I pull it though...maybe it's just stuck?"
With that, Golan pulls harder, completely failing to notice the bandage on top of it. It is not his priority at the moment.
Well, thankfully Flora could watch the male. He seemed to be doing something with a pencil; it was making shapes, much like the ones in her book! She was very curious about it, but she didn't want to lean out of the bush. Seeing the male pay attention, she congratulated herself for a well thought out plan! With this, he would get the bandage, and fix up his nose; and maybe she'd be brave enough to talk to him then! This encouraged the small Kokiri, as the male's hands came closer. Perhaps she had done a really smart plan this time, and it would work! That was re-comforting, because the Kokiri was still a bit shaken from her interactions with the giant Deku Baba not that far away from the two.
But then there was a yank on her book. Eh? Eh? The girl felt the book yanked on again; the male seemed curious, and didn't even notice the bandage. Tugging back, she wasn't allowing the male to take her book.. until he tugged on it too hard, and sent her tumbling forward, coming out of the underbrush suddenly. Tumbling, she let out a squeak, as she wrapped herself around the pretty large book, her small frame covering herself around it. ''N-n-n-no! Booksies issa... issa.. nuuuu!'' she managed to squeak out, the words barely forming from the muffled position that her mouth was in. She didn't want to look up at the male, feeling shy, but it was her book! She wasn't going to let him take it!
Whilst squeezing the book, the girl felt a little bit off put. She squirmed, and then yanked the book away from the male, giving him a slightly frustrated, but teary face. ''D-d-don't.. t-t-t-that is mine..'' she said, her voice pitifully small, but more comprehensible now. Hearing a rustle, the girl jumped, and then just threw herself into the male before her, tugging herself behind her book, now on his lap, and holding the book, to herself, despite his grip. Squeezing her eyes shut, the little Kokiri was shaking immensely. It was like her entire body was trembling now, the girl letting out a soft noise. She was genuinely terrified, as her body was shaking harder, remembering some events from earlier and even more so, in the past.
She didn't know what the noise was, but her eyes were shut, as soft tears dropped onto the male's lap. The child let out soft sobbing noises, as she was scared of being eaten; the fear hate her from the inside out, and it made her so nervous. Even with the bravery she had accumulated until now.. she hadn't accumulated enough to face this fear yet. The girl kept shivering, knowing she was probably making the person uncomfortable, but she couldn't help it. She tried to hum the melody that Cadenza had taught her, but the shaking wouldn't let noises come out.. neither did the sobbing. It was almost painful, but Flora knew she had would have to look.. well once she stopped shaking or something.
And the bandage started to slide down the book too.

As he finally wrested the book free from it's jam, Golan is surprised to see a little girl tumble out of the grass. He's not quite sure what to make of the situation, so he settles for a little wave. "Uhh...Hey there. What're you doing out here..." It's only when she wraps herself around the book that he realizes what was going on. "Uhh...this is your book then? Why didn't you just say so? And why did you hold it out to me if you wanted to keep it?"
When she yanks it away from him, he holds his hands up. "Alright, alright. No need to be testy..." However, it's at that moment that she decides to jump into his lap. Totally lost as to all that's going on, he assumes the demeanor of an unflappable observer, not bound by the insanity of what's going on. "...Okay. I guess you can sit there..." Noticing how she's shaking, and after a moment and wetness appears, crying. She obviously was not a happy girl.
Patting her on the head, he tries to calm the Kokiri child down. "Uhh...there there...nothing bad is going to happen...I won't take the book you held out to me...just please, I don't want you scaring any specimens away..."
Noticing a rustling in the grass, he begins to inch the two of them towards it, hoping to find out what it is. THe girl didn't seem like she was willing to move, and any new discoveries needed to be recorded for the people waiting for him back home. "Hmm...come out, come out, whatever you are..." he hums, taking out his notebook. It's only then that he notices a bandage fall off the book, and he catches it in his notebook. "Did you mean to give me this? You could have just given it to me...it'd have avoided a lot of hassle..."
The stag had been watching the commotion from afar upon hearing the crash of a rock. The stag was rather large in size and did not feel threatened by other predators, maybe they were aware he was a Twili. The young girl and man appeared to exchange words. As the conversation continued the man pulled out his book and pen, turning his attention towards the area the stag was populating. Animals are more than capable of feeling nervous, especially when they can have human feelings. The stag certainly felt nervous and he tried to settle closer to the ground. "THUMP," the stags head rattled from the retaliation of hitting ones antlers upon a nearby tree.
The poor male; he seemed to have no idea what to do with the small Kokiri girl. He had reacted to every single thing she did, and yet.. she just had a bunch of scares. One; he had tried taking her most precious book! What kind of person did that! Books don't just appear out of the bushes; they are usually held by someone! So why would you take a random floating book!? She realized that she took a book from a river; but nobody was attached to it then! If he had felt some resistance, why did he insist on taking the book! The girl might've been mad enough to scold him, but she was still afraid of that giant baba that had been lurking around. And hearing the weird noises?
She was reminded of that. So she had made herself snug against the book stealing person. Maybe if she was smaller then him, they would eat him first? No. She wouldn't let anybody eat him, but it was comforting to have someone there. And this was very rare that Flora got to be around someone bigger then she was in a very close fashion. He seemed concerned about specimens, but her soft sobbing died down, as she calmed down. As he scuttled them, the girl just saw him look at the bandage, and then telling her that she should have just given it! And perhaps, this male just got to see something that Flora's never shown to people; she puffed her cheeks as him, giving him the expression of ''what did you think I did?''.
Really. This man. She would be mad at him.. but she couldn't. The girl just gave a soft noise, and looked away, as a giant thump made her blink, and slightly jump. But as she looked around, she saw nothing of the sort; so she opened her book, landing on her favourite image. She couldn't read, but she smiled and softly touched the picture. She wasn't sure what the picture was, but it looked nice.. and comfy. But the thump noise had worried her, as she flipped the pages, and landed on one with a weird looking thing. She giggled at it, but very softly as to not disturb the specimens that this male was talking about; however, if he had glanced at her book, it would probably make the Twili jump out of his skin.
For the second picture she was one, was a legend about his race. The Twili and the other world. Flora had no idea what she was holding; it became evident that she couldn't read, when she skipped pages with no pictures. She wondered what the strange symbols where, but she just looked at the pictures. They had always made her feel better, since they were cute pictures. But there was something about the book that made Flora want to read. But her attention looked up, as she heard another ruffle; she was curious.. she wanted to see what it was, her fear bleeding away, as the male seemed curious about the sound too.
Maybe his curiosity was infectious, on some level.
