Standing in her dojo, Rune swung her sword at the fake dummy. The thing had been damaged and bruised to the point where you couldn't even tell it was once shaped like a human torso. She had gotten up, and immediately headed for her sword and started slashing away. It was what she did every morning. Until she did it for about two hours in total. Backing from the dummy she let out an exhausted sigh, and set her sword back where it belonged.
Walking back into her room, she put on her more normal clothes. She liked to dress strangely and boldly, she didn't know why but overpowering clothes made her feel.. well.. powerful. Taking another look at herself. Rune was satisfied, she enjoyed her appearance actually. She'd like to think she was at least considered a little pretty.
Walking downstairs, she waited for the other best part of her day. That was Ulrich coming over for breakfast. It had become a daily routine at this point, he'd come over and make her breakfast and they'd talk and their days would go on from there. As Rune never really did much but train, having Ulrich around was a good thing for her, as she really did need someone to keep her company. And she couldn't ask for anyone better then him.
"I'm off to Rune's place Pops! Don't let the pigs out today!"
Ulrich slipped out the door before hearing a reply. He had a sack under his arm with some ingredients for breakfast this morning. He rounded the corner to see a familiar pink creature trying to sneak off around the fences.
"Pako! Don't you think about it!"
The pig turned around to look at Ulrich before it tried running off. He dropped the bag to free his hands. In a fluid motion he grabbed a water dish from the nearby fence, and it sailed right under the pig's feet before the bag had hit the ground. It didn't stop there. Ulrich was on top of the pig in no time. He hefted the healthy creature into his arms and dropped it back into its pen. He gave it a look before gathering his bag and sprinting to Rune's house.
He quietly entered through the front door. It was quiet. He smiled to him, "She must be training still." He walked into the kitchen and set out to make breakfast. He removed fruit from the sack. It was quick work to prepare them for cooking. He may not be handy with a sword, but he could handle a knife. He was happy to see she had gotten some eggs for him to work with too.
He jumped right into cooking breakfast for the two of them, much like he did every morning. He often thought Rune wouldn't be able to take care of herself if he didn't come by. He knew that she could take care of herself though. He didn't mind coming over either. The company was a welcome part of his every day routine.
He turned when he heard Rune enter the kitchen. "Ah! Good morning! It's just about done. Take a seat and I'll bring it over," he said as he hummed to himself. He made Rune and himself a plate before walking over to the table. The smell of it told him he didn't mess it up this time.
"Scrambled eggs with a few spices, a fruit medley, and pancakes drizzled in fresh-made mixed berry sauce~!" Ulrich excitedly announced. "I tried a few new things here, but I think it came out great. Tell me what you think Rune! Don't sugar-coat it either."
Walking into the kitchen, Rune smiled, seeing that Ulrich was already there. Also smelling the sweet sent of food. If there was anything that made her happier then sword fighting, it was Ulrich's good cooking. Honestly, she loved the food he made for her even though she wasn't good at complements. Making it so she would insult it, trying to find anything wrong with it even if she had to make it up.
She knew he knew she loved it though, after all she always downed it and asked for seconds. For someone so little she sure ate a lot. She liked a lot of food, and honestly was more of a man then Ulrich ever was. But maybe that's why their relationship worked? Cause she was so strong, his sweet and innocent side almost completed her. Every one of her talents, he didn't have and every one of his she didn't have. They really where perfect for each other.
Rune took the first bite of the food she was given, happy to eat it. Still she looked at him, trying to think of something to say. Honestly, she liked this more then anything he's cooked before. Then again each time he cooks something new it's her new favorite. So, instead of insulting it was more just like. "It sure is different." Then went to finish off the rest of the plate.
His amber eyes watched Rune closely. He studied her every reaction to the food. He knew that she wouldn't be completely honest with him regarding the taste. She often insulted it or just passed it off as any old thing. He didn't mind it though. It was easy to tell that she liked it at least. Else she wouldn't keep inviting him over to cook, or go for seconds about every time. He just smiled while she took the first bite. It was hard to note her reaction. She could keep an expressionless appearance when she needed it, but she had subtle cues that Ulrich could pick up on. Like how she wouldn't meet his eyes when she talked about his cooking.
"It sure is different."
Ulrich smirked while focusing on his own food. He sampled his plate to make his own opinion. The scrambled eggs were a little over-spiced. He should have added a little less pepper. He looked thoughtfully while he took a few bites of the eggs. He turned his attention to the pancakes. The sweet taste of the fresh syrup went well with the fluffy pancakes. He preferred something with a fruity taste over regular syrup. It still needed some work though. Maybe a wider range of berries? Or maybe he needed to narrow it down... New experimental recipes were flashing through his head. The fruit medley was a simple cocktail of sliced fruits. Nothing really special about it.
He hummed thoughtfully before pointing his fork toward Rune, "So, what's the plan for today? Pops wanted me to try to get some chicken meat, but you know how that Lagan family is with the whole feud thing." He looked off as he got lost in his thoughts once more.
"By the way, how did training go today? Make any breakthroughs?" he asked. Sometimes he felt like he should feel something about how she was many times better than him she was. To those that don't know them, Ulrich was just a wimp who got drug around by her. While she was a much better fighter and stronger than he is, he knew that she would have trouble getting by without him. It was almost funny how she wasn't very good with house work. Ulrich was used to chores around the house when his Mum got tired of dealing with Pops.
He stifled a little bit of laughter that came up and looked back at her expecting a grand answer.
Everything that flew knew that the bigger birds were the birds that ate you. Most of the time, this meant birds steered clear of flying Rito. So when they flew from island to island, it was really kind of the equivalent of driving on a road with no other cars; Your brain just tends to go on Auto-pilot. So when a huge flock of birds, clearly spooked by something, came careening into Marut he was rather surprised by it. And by surprised, I mean completely disoriented and thrown for a loop. While normally he could have simply brushed the birds away, they seemed particularly keen on poking his damn eyes out, and he was rather exhausted from the long trip.
And that would be why he was careening towards the nearest island without much choice in the matter.
He tried to straighten himself, flapping his wings about helplessly, but he still could hardly see straight and the downdraft above the island was not helping. It was about 30 feet from the ground where he realized that trying to right himself was hopeless at this point. He curled his arms in front of his head, curling into a tight ball as self-preservation kicked in. It was like this that he crashed straight into the brush of a tree, smashing through several branches before passing through it, with a slightly lower velocity.
And then smashing straight through a window pane.
He sailed through the now shattered glass, hitting the ground with a rather impressive "thud", and bouncing once before landing in an undignified flop onto the floor. He groaned into the floor once, trying to recover some feeling in his limbs. It was several moments before he used his arms to prop himself off the ground, shaking his head in a vain attempt to clear his disorientation and to shake some of the tiny glass shards off of him. This proved to be a mistake as not only the cuts from the random attack of the bat-shit crazy birds, but the ones that he ahd just made crashing through a freaking window all ached with fresh pain at the movement. He flopped onto his back with another groan, choosing to simply stare at the ceiling for a moment. He didn't even acknowledge, or even realize, that there were two other people inside the house he had just crashed into, a few yards away from him.
Not the most dignified of entrances.
[tl;dr - Busted in the window, lying on the floor like a bustah'.]
