Golan wanders through a large, grassy field, taking copious notes on what he sees, and occasionally tripping when he pays more attention to them than he does the ground in front of his feet. Talking to himself as he writes, he has a wide grin on his face throughout it all.
"Grassland area is wide and spacious, with very diverse formations. Lakes and rivers are common, with large amounts of fish present in them. These fish are readily edible to Twili." Golan stops writing and laughs. "I probably should have done a few tests before I tried it out first..."
Looking around at where he was, he's surprised to see he wandered into a more heavily forested area. He hadn't been paying nearly as much attention as he should have. Going back to his writing, he notes this unusual appearance, moving forward to take notes of the trees, which don't seem to be doing too well.
"Trees are more adapted to marshy area, they're showing signs of dehydration. This leads me to believe there's a large swamp to the south, with severe space issues for present growth...will investigate at a later date."
Looking around where he is, he's gratified to find a more inhabited place...he didn't know the name of the town he saw, but it looked rather large. He missed sleeping in a bed already, despite leaving the World of Twilight only a scant few days ago. However, as he was making his way back to town, he saw a strange, green ball of goo.
"Hullo, what's this?" He mutters, getting closer. Feeling the goop with his hands, he notes an unusually tough consistency. "I wonder what could make this...is it animal leavings? Plant extract? Or could it...AH!"
Just then, his investigations woke the dormant chuchu, and it began advancing on him, as the unfortunate Twili began stumbling away. "AH! Someone help!" Golan calls out, as he tries to scramble to his feet, but his panicked body only ends up having him trip and fall on his face.
Zeke's back rested firmly against a tree his arms crossed and his eyes closed, the sound of neighing entering into his ears as his horse Twilight ate way at the mound of hay that Zeke had bought. He was on his way to Clock Town hoping that he might find answers on how to return to the Realm of Twilight, as the only means he could think of had been cut off to him by his father. He'd probably had been there already if it wasn't for the fact his horse needed a rest, he had been pushing the creature very hard since buying it. It had almost collapsed in the middle of the field, but luckily Zeke had foreseen such a thing happening and had bought an ample supply of water of hay for the creature to eat.
Zeke opened his eyes and pushed himself off the tree and began to walk away from the black horse, his ears having picked up on the signs of movement nearby. He grabbed his sword holding the object tightly inside of his hands, as he advanced towards where he had heard the sound. If something thought it was going to get the drop him it would be surprisingly mistaken, neither monster nor human would be able to surprise the price of Twili. When Zeke finally reached the source of the sounds he was hearing he stopped in his track, his presences hidden thanks to the shade of the trees. He watched red eyes carefully examining another Twili as he began to mess around with a strange green blob, something that Zeke knew as a Chuchu.
Father didn't send another person here did he? Perhaps to watch me.
The idea of the other Twili being a spy for his father was quickly tossed as the window as he began to freak as the Chuchu began to move making its way to attack him. Wasting no time Zeke dashed forward stabbing his sword into the green glob causing it break up and sink into the ground. His eyes then turned towards the Twili that was lying with his face in the ground, "Stand up; you're giving us a Twili a bad name."
Golan was busy trying to run away from the sudden appearance of the hostile creature, taking his knife out of the sheath on his belt, trying to fend it off. Taking a few wild swings at the encroaching blob, Golan can't resist the urge to close his eyes in fright. However, he soon hears a loud noise, and sees a man standing over the slain blob.
"Oh, wonderful! Someone heard me!" He exclaims, clambering unsteadily out to his feet. "Thank you so much, Mister...eep!"
At that moment, he had his first chance to take a good look at his benefactor, and he was shocked. "P-Prince Ezekiel? W-what are you doing here?" As far as he knew, there shouldn't be many other Twili here...the Chief Librarian had made a big deal out of being able to send someone to the World of Light. But...if that was not the case, then he might be able to go back and forth more easily! The Chief Librarian told him he'd come back once his chronicling was done...but he'd been vague on the specifics. If there was an easier way to travel in and out, he could get a whole team out here to work on the collection!
Of course, that wasn't what was immediately important. What was, was that he was currently in the presence of royalty, and he was not acting with the proper deference. "O-Of course, Prince...I'm sorry. I'll...try to represent our people better in the future."
Tilting his head slightly, the librarian asks the Prince. "Umm...your grace, if it isn't much trouble...how did you get here? I...wasn't aware Twili entering the Light was a common occurence...the Chief Librarian only recently found a way to send me out..."
Getting nervous, he looks away. "If...you don't want to answer, that's fine...it's probably not my place to ask. I-Is there anything I can do for you?"
Zeke let annoyance appear on his face as he watched the other member of his race wiggled about on the ground and pathetically trying to unstrap a knife from his side. The other Twili even closed his eyes as they waited for the ChuChu to attack, but the second he realized the hit wasn't coming the Twili opened his eyes. The Twili began to stumble to his feet thanking him, still seemingly unaware that he was in the presences of his prince but as it slowly dawned on him Zeke couldn't help but grin slightly. "I'm here on business my father has matters he wishes for me to take care of, other than that I'm afraid I can't tell you." it was lie but judging from the way the other Twili was acting he was unaware of the fact Zeke's father had casted him out of the Realm of Twilight. If he didn't know then there was of course no need to inform on the matter, besides now that he was with one of his own he could use him to his advantage.
If he was here then he obviously had a way to get back home and that was what Zeke wanted to go home, to settle the score with the father that had tossed him aside. Zeke closed his eyes briefly letting himself calm down, he didn't need to be letting his anger show he needed to stay focused. "Good, I'm glad you'll show these humans that the Twili are a powerful people not bumbling fools." he was trying to be mean, but not outwardly trying to make fun of the Twili. What came next was the question of how Zeke himself got here, even more of sign that this Twili knew not of Zeke's exile into this realm.
Zeke stabbed his sword into the ground before crossing his arms, "I'm sorry my young Twili but I can't tell how I got here, it's a Royal Family secret. What I can tell you is that I'm stuck here, my means of returning has been prevented. Perhaps you know a way for me to return home?"
Golan did not miss the look of condescension on Ezekiel's face...but he wasn't really surprised. He was royalty, inherently above him. It only makes sense that he'd be the one to beat what he'd made a fool of himself over. Feeling crummy, the younger Twili has a feeling to run and hide away with his books...it's a feeling he's well accustomed to, and what made him so well suited for working in the castle library.
"Of course, Prince Ezekiel. If...I could be of help to you in any way, I'd be happy to..."
Much to Golan's shock, the Twili heir actually responds to his offer of help, after a rebuke that sends him cringing. Then again, he'd ran away screaming from a glorified ball of jelly...he was pathetic. Still...he'd meant the offer mostly as a formality, of something done, but not accepted. Most of the time, no one really needed his help. And it figures that what he was asked to help with was beyond him.
"I'm...sorry, my prince. I...don't know how. The...the Chief Librarian basically said I'd return when I was ready...I don't know if that's after the chronicle is done, after a certain amount of time...or if it was just a way to get me out of his hair." Golan rubs the back of his neck. "I don't think that's the case, though. It'd be easier just to kill me if that's what he wanted."
Realising that he was getting off track, he shakes his head. "But...I'm sure that we could find a way home! I mean, it was the spirits of the World of Light that sealed our ancestors away in the first place, way back when. Surely they could recreate the ritual...hopefully. I need to do research on the subject...but until now, it was low priority."
Zeke kept his calm upon hearing the news that even this other Twili had no way to return home, that the Chief Librarian had told him he'd return when ready. When ready? He was ready to leave now, he was ready to rule now. Zeke pinched the bridge of his nose with this pointer finger and thumb his eyes closing as he began to think, this boy had proven to be of very little use to him he was clueless on how to get back. Any normal Twili would have made sure a way of returning home was in place before letting someone send them into the Realm of Light, unless of course you were casted out by your father. In which case you didn't have enough time to make up a plan on how to return, and you were just stuck until your father deemed your punishment over.
Zeke exited his thoughts when the younger Twili mentioned something about the Spirits having sealed the Twili people away so many years ago, and almost smacked himself in the face. How could he have forgotten that? It had been one of the very first things that his father's adviser had taught him about, the history of the Twili people. A grin crossed Zeke's lips as he placed a hand firmly on the younger Twili's shoulder, "Very wise of you to recommend using the Spirits to get home." while the Twili didn't appear to have strength, he was smart which was enough in Zeke's mind to make up for his early foolishness. The idea of ending the spirits of Light Realm was now also fresh inside of Zeke's mind now, after of course they made a way for him to get home. He'd get revenge for his people who had been so badly wronged by the spirits who had been sealed away. "Oh and I"'ll be sure to have my father reward you for having helped me."
After I kill him of course
Zeke removed his hand from the Twili's shoulder and pulled his sword up from the ground placing it back inside of it's sheath that was strapped to his waist. "This whole time we've been talking I've yet to get your name, I'll need it if I'm to tell my father who helped me return home."
The librarian holds back a sigh as he feels Prince Ezekiel evaluate him, and knowing he's coming up short. He had known that traveling to the World of Light with only the information he was aware of was a dumb idea...but he was confident he wasn't just being sent back to fail. Not only was the spell complex, but he was entrusted with several priceless books for the trip...not something even the most callous librarian would give up easily. Still, he doubted that reasoning would fly very well with the prince.
As he began to worry, he felt a hand on his shoulder, and lets out an eep of surprise, as things seem to be going in a complete 180-degree turn. Ezekiel was smiling, and calling his idea helpful...it seems he just needed an initial lead. "Umm...thank you, my prince! Glad I could help!" He didn't think it was all that special, but the praise gave him a burst of inspiration. Reaching into his book, he pulls out one of the old texts on the World of Light's geography...as far as it was known. "The Light Spirits that the Twili encountered live in the province called Hyrule...and as far as I'm aware, this is not that place." Flipping through the book, he finds the passage he had last. "Hyrule is famous for it's volcano, and for temperate forests...this land has swamps and snowy mountains. And while it's likely to have changed a great deal...I think it'd be better to talk to locals about it."
When Ezekiel mentions a reward, Golan finds himself more shocked than when he found out his contribution was helpful. "That's...very generous of you, Prince! If you think I've helped you that much, I'm honored!" When he spent time in the castle performing his duties, Prince Ezekiel seemed to think of receiving things based on his status for granted...then again, he hadn't seen him very much. Maybe he had misjudged the prince entirely. "My name is Golan...and if there's anything else I can do to help, I'd be happy to."
He watched carefully as Golan pulled out book and began to read from it, it seemed as if he was checking his information before actually speaking. The next words out of Golan's mouth were just what Zeke was hoping they'd be the location to start looking for the Light Spirits. Hyrule and while he couldn't tell Zeke just where at in Hyrule, he had given him enough of a head start that Zeke would be able to find them on his own, find them and make his way back home. Zeke's arms crossed as Golan finished speaking about what Zeke assumed was the type of landscapes that made up Hyrule, information that while Zeke didn't need could still prove useful.
Golan seemed to have a lot of books with him, books that most likely held information that would prove useful to Zeke. It was time he did more than just simply ask for information. "Actually Golan I require some of those books you have on your person, at least the ones dealing with Hyrule." the Twili had said if there was anything else he could he'd be happy to help, the books are what Zeke required in order to go any further. The Twili prince uncrossed his arms and turned his back on Golan motioning with his hands for the boy to follow him as he began his walk back towards his horse.
He had bag there that Golan could place the books in, so that Zeke himself wouldn't have to deal with carrying them everywhere he went. The books would only slow him down if he ran into any kind of trouble, and that was the last thing he needed...to be slowed down. Once he arrived at the location of his horse and advanced towards her placing his hand on her head as she ate away at what was left of the hay. He pointed towards the bag that rested near the tree he had been leaning against before, "Place the books in that bag."
As Golan continued speaking, Ezekiel seemed receptive to what he was saying, so he continued. "Now, from what I was able to gather, there are four light spirits should be located in four areas...usually in sacred springs in those areas. Finding them shouldn't be too hard...it's fairly likely that the springs are venerated by the locals, being founts of energy and all."
He stopped, however, when the Twili prince asked for his books. He was under orders to protect the books with his life. The texts were ancient, and allowing them to be lost or damaged would be unthinkable under any less than life or death circumstances. They were bound in protective coverings for that purpose, and had enchantments on them to protect them from the elements. Would giving them to someone like Ezekiel be wise?
"My prince...I'm sorry, but I am under orders to hold on to these books..." Foreseeing the inevitable rebuttal from that, he continues. "The Chief Librarian...your uncle, told me that these were to be used as reference for my assignment..."
Knowing that won't likely get him very much currency in holding Ezekiel off, he sighs. He'll really hate to lose these books, but it doesn't seem like there's any way around it.
"If...if it's really important, I'll give them to you...just remember to talk to him about it, alright? I don't want to be punished for it..."
Zeke turned away from his horse and looked Golan right in the eyes, he was just about to tell Zeke no. He was going to say no to royalty something that surely he knew would be a mistake, though before Zeke could even say a word on the matter Golan kept on talking already aware of what Zeke was going to say next it would seem. "I'm aware my of what my uncle told you to do Golan, but I need those books if I'm to return home. You'd hate for my father to hear how you made the task of returning home harder for me wouldn't you? Surely any reward he'd give you would be tossed aside after hearing such things, and would be quickly replaced with punishment." if Golan had anymore second thoughts about giving him the books surely that would make him handed them over, nothing was more feared in the Twili than a punishment from the king. His father had a reputation of being unforgiving to those who crossed him too badly, and thinking about it now Zeke was surprised his father hadn't done something horrible to him. Then again he was his father's son and the old man did have a bit of a soft heart when it came to family, so he wasn't have been all that surprised by the banishment instead of a worse punishment.
Zeke grinned when Golan seemed to finally agree to hand over the books, but with the comment about talking to his uncle so he didn't get into trouble. "Don't worry I only need them for a limited amount of time, I'll be sure to return them once I'm done. No harm will befall the books I assure of this, please place them inside of the bag." again Zeke pointed towards the bag near the tree he had been leaning against. This time however instead of returning to petting his horse he watched Golan with unmoving eyes, just to make sure he did as he was told. "Only the ones about Hyrule the others are of no use to me at the moment."
With a sigh, Golan nods. Setting his pack on the ground, he begins to sort the books out into categories. He took the fiction books and immediately threw them back inside of his pack, and he took the ones focusing on plants and wildlife back as well. Eventually, he was just left with the ones about the different Light World countries, at least, how they existed way back when. Taking the ones not relevant to the Twili prince, Golan sets the remaining books inside of Zeke's bag. While it was possible that Zeke had meant for the biology books as well, he very much needed those books for his research, and they didn't exactly refer to Hyrule specifically.
"I...think that's all of them." Golan says, turning back to Ezekiel. "Do treat them well...they're priceless."
In his experience, those who did not spend much time around books tended to treat them poorly. It wasn't a judgment, not really, but a state of fact. People who couldn't see the intrinsic value of books tended to leave the ones they perused with dog-ears, torn pages, splotches from food or drink, and all kinds of other nasty things. One of his duties back in the castle library was to repair the damage, and while magic did make such tasks easier, there were many a time when the books were returned in an unsalvageable condition. If the Hylian books were returned in such a state, even with princely protection, he'd have the chief librarian breathing down his throat for years to come.
